Frequently Asked Questions

An original painting is a unique, one-of-a-kind artwork created directly by the artist. It possesses distinct physical characteristics, including visible brushstrokes and/or palette knife strokes. All originals by Charlene Ryan are created exclusively with oil paint on canvas. Because they uniquely preserve the artist’s direct touch, original paintings are premium collectible assets that are likely to appreciate over time
In contrast, an art print is a high-resolution reproduction of an original piece. Utilizing advanced digital scanning and professional printing technologies, prints allow an artist to offer their imagery across multiple copies. While prints capture the visual essence of the work, they lack the physical texture of raw paint and are offered at a more accessible investment level.

When you buy an original painting or print, you own the exquisite physical piece to display and enjoy. However, the copyright does not transfer with the sale. The artist (and their legal estate) retains all reproduction rights, including the right to create and sell prints of the image even after the original painting has sold. This means the artwork cannot be copied, scanned, or reproduced by the buyer for profit or any other purpose. Thank you for respecting Charlene Ryan’s intellectual property and artistic legacy.

Not necessarily. While some artworks marked "Unavailable" have indeed been sold to private collections, others are temporarily held by the artist for upcoming exhibitions, personal archiving, or future release. Because these held pieces are not permanently gone, their status may change, and they could become available for purchase at a later date.
If you are interested in a specific unavailable piece, please reach out via the contact page for private inquiries regarding its future availability or to discuss a custom commission.
